Ideally, you should have lab results that were taken within the past 3-4 months. It's okay if you have older ones.
MINIMUM scenario: You have these lab results:
- TSH
- Free T4
- Free T3
- Reverse T3
For example: If your Reverse T3 result is missing, I can still evaluate your other thyroid labs to determine if there's an issue. However, I won’t be able to provide specific guidance on treatment, because Reverse T3 is a crucial marker—it plays a central role in both thyroid hormone replacement strategies and has different natural approaches than other situations.
IDEAL scenario: You have all of the above test results and also these:
- TPO antibody (thyroid peroxidase)
- TG antibody (thyroglobulin),
- Vitamin D
- B-12
- IRON PANEL: (4 tests): TIBC, Total Iron, % Saturation, Ferritin.
IMPORTANT NOTE ON TAKING THYROID TESTS! If you take thyroid hormones, you must not take any before the test! NONE! You should get tested within 2-3 hours after waking up (no matter what time you wake up)...no food, no supplements, no medications. You can have water, black coffee, or black tea. When the blood draw is done, you can take your medications and thyroid hormones etc.
